A Cycle Trainer or (Turbo Trainer, Bike Trainer, Indoor Bike Trainer) is a piece of equipment that makes it possible to ride a bicycle indoors without moving forward.
They are commonly used by cyclists and triathletes to improve cycling and fitness perfomrance for race preparation. A great piece of equipment during the colder months when riding conditions outside are not favourable.
They also allow training in settings like the gym or at home, where the user often has the advantage of being able to listen to music or watch TV and to focus on a specific session e.g. Sprint Session.
Turbo training lets you maintain high intensity without the start stop of road riding and negates any loss of quality training by coasting along (You can't) As with all training a good warm -up through the gears is essential as is a period of cool down. The cool down will help flush the lactate from the muscles and promote recovery and boost the endurance effect.A handy supply of water or sports drink is essential as you will sweat buckets, for longer endurance riding maybe an energy gel or bar.
A good quality fan to keep you cool is great if available.
